For the 2003 festival the Lighthouse was made into the Tower of Babel. The huge Babel letters are seen here cut from plywood.

Lighthouse Bracing

Diamond bracing was added in 2002, replacing the original cables and turnbuckles. The struts created additional triangles -- this made the tower extremely stable even in extreme wind conditions, so it no longer needed to be guyed. The diamonds are also beautiful, adding to the structural symmetry.

An innovation for 2002 was that the tower was largely preassembled. The top sections were packed nested and only the large lower section was in parts.
